Local Organization Examines the Need for Re-entry Services

CGR was engaged by Barakah Muslim Charity (BMC), which serves residents in and around the 14611 area code, to examine whether BMC should offer re-entry services to formerly incarcerated residents of the neighborhoods it serves. The focus of this project was to better understand the local need for re-entry services and support, the landscape of other local re-entry services, and how BMC’s program can best fit into this existing environment.

CGR gathered demographic information on the number of formerly incarcerated individuals returning to the area to broadly estimate a level of need and interviewed a number of organizations already offering re-entry services to identify best practices and advice for structuring a re-entry program.

Interviewees from existing re-entry service organizations agreed that there is a significant need locally for structured residential re-entry programs that can provide a planned, step-by-step supportive transition of formerly incarcerated individuals back into the community.
