Close-Up on the NYS Economy July 2007
 

Financial activities employment rose by 1.5% over the past year. Buffalo-NF, Poughkeepsie, and Utica-Rome were the big winners with gains above 3% while Albany lost 3% of their sector’s employment over the past year.

Employment in information for New York State fell by 1.2% in the past year. Buffalo-NF was the major catalyst for this drop-off with a nearly 10% decrease in sector employment. Rochester had the biggest positive growth in the information sector.

Employment in transportation, warehousing, and public utilities for New York State rose slightly. Utica-Rome had the sharpest increase of nearly 6%.

Employment in manufacturing declined over 2% for New York State. New York City had the sharpest decline over 6% while Binghamton had the sole increase.

Employment in the natural resources and construction for New York State increased overall, with Utica-Rome and Binghamton over 9%, while it decreased more than 4% in Buffalo-NF.
