A recently issued report from a New York City coalition that works on behalf of the poor and working class (Jobs with Justice) criticized IDA activity in New York state. Impact of extending prevailing wage to the private sector
IDAs function as the primary economic development entities in most New York communities. New York’s Legislature is considering proposals that would require IDA-funded projects to pay construction workers prevailing, instead of market, wage. CGR shows extending prevailing wage to the private sector would inflate New York’s construction costs and weaken the state’s viability in the ongoing competition for major development projects. Sharing and consolidating services in New York state
By offering a Shared Municipal Services Incentive (SMSI) grant program, the state of New York is actively encouraging local governments to find ways to increase service sharing and consolidation to reduce government expenditures in communities across New York.
