In 2006 CGR posted one of the stronger performances in its 91-year history, ending the year with operational results solidly in the black.
The confidence clients placed in us, outstanding staff performance, and generous contributors all enhanced our ability to achieve CGR's mission.
Our mission
To enable government, business and nonprofit leaders to improve the quality of their communities – defines everything we do.
Fiscal stability, in turn, allows us to continue helping leaders at local, regional and state levels shape change in the public interest. In fact, we consider smart budgeting, careful project oversight, and prudent financial management essential to our ability to provide objective consulting services.

CGR, a nonprofit organized under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, had project revenues topping $1.7 million in 2006 and received more than $100,000 in unrestricted gifts from donors.
Since people are CGR's key asset, our costs, not surprisingly, were primarily staff and staff-related. As the chart below illustrates, our 2006 sources of project revenue were very balanced. We derived project revenues from government clients, nonprofits, foundations, and a mix of contributors who made restricted gifts in support of two statewide initiatives we launched last year.
Other highlights of 2006 were consistent growth in investments (endowment and board-designated), no use of our line of credit, and a strong year-end project backlog. We maintained focus on retaining and attracting talented staff, and on effective use of technology. This annual report – our first-ever “e-annual report” – is tangible evidence of the way we work. In 2007 we will take a new step in how we track unrestricted gifts. Funds will be 100% committed to CGR's Fund for the Public Interest, making it possible to undertake special projects in support of our mission that we would otherwise be unable to fund.
Effective financial management is emphasized at CGR because it is critical to achieving our mission.
