In a vote held December 6, 2011, Village of Altmar residents voted 54 to 50 to accept the Elector-Initiated Dissolution Plan that was adopted by the Village Board in August. As a result of the vote the Village will be abolished as of June 1, 2013. The referendum on the plan was scheduled in accordance with Article 17-A of New York State General Municipal Law. The Elector-Initiated Dissolution Plan and a summary of it can be found on the documents page.
Altmar is the first village in New York to approve dissolution under a new state law. As a result, the Village had to prepare and approve a dissolution plan by May 31, 2011. A Dissolution Study Committee, assisted by the Center for Governmental Research (CGR) developed the plan to present to the Village Board. The Board approved the Elector Initiated Dissolution Plan for the Village of Altmar on May 23, 2011.
Following the public hearing on July 6, the plan was amended and the Amended Final Elector Initiated Dissolution Plan was approved by the Village Board on August 3, 2011. The Plan and a summary of the plan can be found here.
